Bethesda E3 2016 Conference Recap

Hot damn. I’m going to be honest, I was skeptical when I heard Bethesda was hosting another press conference. After their stellar showing at E3 2015, I thought it was a one off. That they were just doing it to start the Fallout 4 hype train and that maybe they would do another one in a couple years when they had another marquee title to announce like Elder Scrolls VI. But they came back this year and they were excellent. So if you missed it or want a detailed list of the announcements this article is for you, enjoy!

Wolfenstein tease

In the first seconds of the conference, a bootup NWteasescreen came up as a sort of cute way to introduce the conference. But if you look closely it’s actually a list of all the Wolfenstein and Doom games as well their release dates. In the list after “Old_Blood”, which was the last Wolfenstein game released in 2015, is “New_Colossus” with “**-**-**” as the release date. This is undoubtedly a tease for the next Wolfenstein game and a great way to start off the conference.

Quake Champions announced

iD Studio Director Tim Willits took to the stage to announce Quake Champions. The next installment in the classic arena shooter franchise will be a return to the roots of what made Quake a phenomenon that jump-started the eSports movement. More information will be revealed at Quakecon in August this year.

The Elder Scrolls Legends: A Strategy Card Game new trailer and information

In what is quite obviously an attempt to get in on the strategy card game business that has been made huge by Hearthstone and to a much lesser extent Witcher 3‘s Gwent, Bethesda is making a strategy card game set in the Elder Scrolls world. The game will feature competitive multiplayer, a single player campaign, various eSports competitions and will come out later this year. Check out the story trailer which glitched out during the conference in true Elder Scrolls fashion.

Loads of new Fallout 4 and Fallout Shelter DLC

In a video starring Bethesdad Tod Howard a whole bunch of new Fallout DLC was announced. Firstly for Fallout Shelter, there are now quests that dwellers can complete as well as an all new combat system. Now for Fallout 4 there is Contraptions which adds new options for building out your settlements with elevators, armor and weapon racks, Rupe Goldberg-like track systems, sorting machines and conveyor belts. The next piece of DLC is Vault-Tec which will let players build their very own vaults underground. It looks very similar to Fallout Shelter in the way it presents your vault in a 2.5D side view. The last piece of DLC for Fallout 4 takes players to Nuka-World which is a Disneyworld style amusement park in the dystopic Wasteland. Check out the clip from the conference!

Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition Announced and Detailed

What was already leaked but now confirmed, Skyrim is coming to Xbox One and PS4 with new visuals and mod support. Also, all players who own either the Legendary edition or all the DLC on PC will get upgraded to the Special Edition free of charge. Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition launches on October 28th, 2016. Neato!

Prey reboot announced

From the incredibly talented team at Arkane studios comes a reimaging of the classic psychological thriller Prey. This game also called Prey (because names are hard) will be coming to consoles and PC in 2017. Check out the CG trailer for some scaries!

New Doom DLC announcede3doomharvester0041465775799jpg-a529f1_765w

More content is coming to one of the most critically acclaimed first-person shooters of all time. Doom will be getting new maps and features in the coming months in an effort to keep players engaged with the game and coming back for more. The first full-fledged DLC is called Unto the Evil and will add new demons, weapons and more later this year.

Elder Scrolls Online Dark Brotherhood DLC announceddb dlc

The Dark Brotherhood will be stealing, stabbing and sneaking their way into Elder Scrolls Online, Zenimax’s hit MMO, later this year. The announcement also came with new features including a feature called “One Tamriel” which will automatically level players so they can play any mission with other players of any level. It seems to me to almost defeat the point of leveling but we’ll see what the community thinks of it when it comes to the game later this year.

Dishonored 2 Trailers and Details

Holy crap. Dishonored 2 looks freaking incredible. Loads of new information for one of the most anticipated games of the year was revealed including an amazing new story trailer. Firstly Dishonored 2 will let you play as either Emily or Corvo and is set years after the events of Dishonored (as evidenced by Corvo’s many, many wrinkles). There are new powers and a whole new location in Carnaca. This southern region of the world has a very different feeling than Dunwall, the location of the first game. With a new setting comes new weather effects, characters and vistas.

“In Dishonored, you play as a supernatural assassin in a steampunk city. The game blends combat, stealth and mobility giving you many different pathways and approaches.” – Harvey Smith, Co-Creative Director

It was also revealed that Dishonored 2 will be getting a collector’s edition that comes with Corvo’s mask as well as Emily’s ring and a gorgeous steelbook. Also for a limited time everyone who pre-orders Dishonored 2 will get Dishonored Definitive Edition for free. Let the hype train steam on until Dishonored 2 hits shelves on November 11th later this year.
